Log:

Following the disintegration of the army that invaded Fort Trefrey, Tordek was rewarded with the title of master of the fort. The heroes of Fort Trefrey gained in reputation, and one bitterly cold fall eve in the Imperial Year 220, the companions arrived in the county of Hercule on the request of the ruling countess. Countess Hercule was distraught because her twinned niece and nephew recently traveled to an old Acherousian ruin known as the "Sunless Citadel" in order to try and put a stop to the raiding that has been carried forth from that place along the old road. The Countess asked the heroes help in finding out what has happened to the two junior members of the ruling family. Each adventurer who travels to the citadel and aids in locating the Countess' children will recieve one-thousand golden emperors. If the two are returned alive, the Countess will gladly triple that reward. The heroes make a few purchases in town, but ask few questions on their way to the Citadel regarding rumors of odd livestock slayings and the brood of dark, alien monsters that seem to escape detection.

Along the way to the Sunless Citadel, the heroes were ambushed by a pair of alien twig-monsters. Although the monsters were resistant to the piercing damage of Arborlore's arrows, the dry wood beasts had no defense against the wrath of Infernus' spells.

When the heroes arrived at the Citadel, they found it buried at the bottom of a sizeable crevasse. The citadel once stood above ground just as a normal castle should. However, the heroes saw that the walls and turrets no longer poked above the surface. Instead, the entire structure was forcibly buried beneath tons of rock and mud. The adventurers enterd the citadel.

Inside they found a company of kobolds, whom they dispatch with little difficulty. Only the Kobold priestess-queen gave them any trouble. They found a solid steel door locked, and were unable to open it by picking its lock. After defeating an enclave of goblins who seemed to be warring with the kobolod tribe next, the heroes start to move on through another door deeper into the citadel.
