Over the long and bitter winter, Arborlore had left the fort and its locality to do some travelling and work on his ranger tracking skills. However, when the spring comes he does not report to the fort when he is supposed to. Lord Tordek dispatches a task force to locate and retrieve the missing ranger.

Gutboy, Apotheosis, and the new recruits Deadeye and Grimjob arrive in the small village of Hovelton, several hours away from the fort. The trappers and hunters of the villiage report seeing Arborlore, but that he disappeared after he had asked about a hidden valley to the southwest where several unique species of ferns and snails are known to exist. The heroes set off toward the Valley of the Snails.

The group is ambushed along the way by some goblins. The heroes dispatch these foes in no time. They come to a curious depression in the earth. The valley of the snails is a 30' sheer drop all around. It was like the valley rests in a collosal footprint more than any sort of natural terrain.

Within the valley, the heroes are met by a friendly dog who leads them to an altered Arborlore. He runs around, foaming at the mouth. Not quite sure of who he is or where he is. He has been poisoned and given a suggestion by a goblin warchief in the valley. In order to safely transport Arborlore, the heroes must get the antidote. Of course that antidote is only found on the goblin leader.

The heroes assault the goblin stronghold and win the day after a brilliant battle. Deadeye is wounded quite gravely, but the others manage to survive just fine. Arborlore is returned to his normal self and the group returns to Fort Trefrey to be assigned a new adventure.
