Summer arrives, and Tordek is tasked with dealing with a nearby den of bugbears who have been menacing the village of Knowles. The one-legged dwarven captain Tordek dispatches a crew to deal with the situation.

After almost a week's travel, the heroes arrive at the entrance of the bugbear den. Two guards at the mouth of the cave fall quickly under the comrades blows, but one escapes to bring reinforcements. A vicious fight ensues, and Grimjob is nearly killed before Sacrosanct reads a fireball scroll, taking out all the remaining bugbears.

The party pokes around the Bugbear's treasures, mostly stolen from nearby townsfolk. Hiding among them is a green slime which attacks. Grimjob's attacks do nothing but cut the slime in half, allowing it to attack twice as fast. Infernus manages to kill the slime using his flaming sword.

After a night's rest, the heroes venture back into the cave to find out what was behind one of the locked doors. Inside, they discover three undead shadows who nearly drain the life from Deadeye before Sacrosanct again comes to their rescue by turning the villians. The shadows guarded an old elven shrine, and the heroes manage to return to Fort Trefrey with a magical shortsword and a few more scrolls.
