While sages at Fort Trefrey pour over the scrolls taken from the Serpents' temple, four intrepid warriors invade a cave that contains a known Bugbear infestation. They are met with some easy resistance at first, as one of the two cave entrance guards flees back into the great chamber. However, the fight intensifies as a wave of undead zombies attacks the group bolstered by a half-dozen well-armed bugbears. A goblin sorcerer, a human death cleric, and a massive bugbear chief back up the mighty group. The heroes give as good as they got with Apotheosis and Gutboy teaming up to slay the bugbear leader in a duel. However, in covering the others' escape the noble Stalwart falls beneath the blows of too many zombies and perishes. The cave is left bare as the remaining bugbears and spellcaster flee the area that they were terrorizing.

The group is able to sell off some of the weapons and armor the bugbears carried, as well as some of the loot that was not able to be returned to their rightful owners.
