The companions are joined unceremoniously by an elven warrior and his bard cohort. They were also abducted from the high-elven city of Aerele in the future to collect Ambitrax's artifacts. After a growling match, Dathiest is haltingly accepted into the group.

Following the guide "Gordie", the group makes its way to a final crack that leads the the dragon's lair. The group comes on a patch of magical darkness closing the crack from the main passageway. After a discussion of tactics, the group decides to storm through the crack in hopes of suprising the dragon and taking his wealth. The group runs in at full power, only to find nothing but a pile of gold and magic items. The group quickly scrapes all the gold and magic into their bags they can. Nebuchenezzar throws a wall of force around "Gordie" in order to keep him from making off with any of the loot, only to find that "Gordie" is in fact the gold dragon Zavier. The group grabs the magic items, and runs screaming back through the crack.

Back at the carin, the group is disappointed not to find Ambitrax's item among the magic that they took from the lair. The group decides to return and search for secret hiding places for the item.

The time travellers storm into the lair, only to find it empty except for the remaining gold and gems. The party is stumped. The group goes to work searching and checking for anything that may be hiding the artifact. After a moment, Corian finds a brain worm has burrowed into his head and is eating his brain matter. Only after a successful heal spell, the maggot is expelled. However, when Corian tries to kill the maggot it instead shrugs off the blow with no problems. The group realises that the grub is instead the dragon polymorphed and begins to attack. However, the attack is in vain and just before the dragon finishes the group off he is stopped by a feminine voice and put to sleep.

The voice invites the seekers of Ambitrax's artifacts through a gateway into another dimension. Inside is a dragon of immense size and power with mulitcolored scales. The dragon introduces herself as the "Chronos Dragon" and tells the heroes that on their world she is known as "The Seer". Apparently, on every plane of existence she takes a mortal form in order to watch and guard in some capacity or another. The dragon gives them the Mandolin of Travel, the third artifact of Ambitrax's. This oracle dragon then tells the heroes that they are welcome to her artifact of Ambitrax and offers some advice and some warnings. She gives the group some direction as to the whereabouts of the other artifacts in Ambitrax's couplet and tells them to "beware the watchers", and to "beware the Acropolis". She does all this because in the future, they will do something for her.

The time travellers return through the gateway to Zavier's lair where he waits. He lets the group have the pile of treasure, and offers to transport the group to the isle of Munt where the next artifact is located.

As soon as the six adventurers arrive from Zavier's teleportation, they are confronted by a group of three in white robes. They insist on taking the artifacts from the group. When their request is denied, the three then go on to whip up on the group, disabling them all with hold person spells. The three white-robed individuals then take the three instruments from the group and leave.
