====== Experience Point Rewards ======

Player characters generally gain experience points (XP) for every two gold pieces spent (1:2 XP for gold). That includes vice, fees, tolls, living expenses, livery, bribes, or business ventures. It does not matter what the source of money is, treasure from a dungeon, rewards from grateful lords or peasants, profit from a business venture, the take from a robbery, even tax money and farm income from a lordship, as long as it accrues from player action.  Perhaps the only expenditures that do not also yield experience points are paying for services or goods rendered by another player character or sharing shares of treasure with henchmen (since the henchmen themselves claim the XP bonus for these expenditures). 

Certain expenditures yield XP for every one gold piece spent. Some of these expenditures are specific to each of the four classes. 

  * All characters receive 1:1 XP for gold spent on any construction such as monuments, strongholds, headquarters, buildings and land improvements.
  * [[scholar|Scholars]] receive 1:1 XP for gold spent on crafting scrolls, potions, magic items, magic experiments, research, and purchasing books of any kind.
  * [[specialist|Specialists]] receive 1:1 XP for gold spent on luxury goods or extravagant, unique experiences.
  * [[warrior|Warriors]] receive 1:1 XP for gold spent on weapons, armor, horses and troop retainers.
  * [[zealot|Zealots]] receive 1:1 XP for gold given to the founding of a local church or monastery, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, or tithes toward the crusades in Jerusalem.  All should be aware that Templars and Hermits who hoard too much wealth between sessions risk losing their spellcasting powers until they repent.

In addition to XP from gold pieces, the DM should award a session award on the following schedule:

====== Game Master Awards ======

At the conclusion of a game session that includes an expedition judged by a GM, that evening's game master's player characters should gain an amount of gold equal to the average number of gold pieces that the party was able to recover during their expedition. That GM may then distribute that gold to his player characters as he sees fit.
The GM may pick one of his PC's to get the Session Active Character award and the other(s) the Inactive Character Award. 

In a case where more than one GM judged expeditions in a single session, the average wealth should be distributed back to the game masters proportionately. For example, a game in which three separate GMs happened to judge small expeditions, the average gold should be calculated and each GM should receive a third of that number for their player characters.


====== Character Levels ======

PCs level up when they earn enough XP. A PC gains new benefits each time they level up, per their class and archetype. PCs are unable to level up in more than one class. Max PC level is 9. Refer to [[class]] rules for
specifics (such as dice rolled for HP, etc).
