This old salty seaman received his captain's bars under wild circumstances when he survived a harpy attack after being deafened by firing off the ship's cannons that kept him from hearing their beguiling song. He stabbed the largest of the harpies and drove them off. He is joined by the only other original crew-mate to survive that attack, his aromantic life-mate [[Old Pickering]].
