Centuries ago, a joint enterprise the Miner's Guild and the Arcanist's Guild excavated the magically rich ores within Resounding Torrent mine. These two powerful dwarven guilds, based in the nearby undermountain city of Citadel, designed a unique device to create magical artificial life. After a generation of mystical development the Throne of Arcanum was created. Using this powerful artifact, a new race of sentient beings were conceived to take on the very dangerous tasks of mining more and more of the valuable mineral resources from beneath the surface of the wild continent of Radavan.
Everything came to a shocking end when these Automatons created by the Throne of Arcanum, desperate from their neverending servitude to the dwarven guilds who created and enslaved them, besieged Citadel and the Resounding Torrent mine. The battle destroyed the vault of Citadel and much of the mine as well, causing various cave-ins throughout. Few survived the conflict to relate the tale. The Throne of Arcanum became legend and the entrance to the Resounding Torrent mine was lost.
In the current age, Flimp Dinki has located the entrance to the long-lost Resounding Torrent mine, the site of the Throne of Arcanum. This is an amazing find for a gnome who has devoted her entire life to the design and manufacture of clockwork automatons. However, this discovery exposes the gnome artificer to new threats from the past - threats that my wish to remain forgotten.
