The Dwarves are one of the oldest civilizations in the world. Dwarves generally look like short, thick bodied humans. They typically live in small underground towns where they mine ores and gems and create first rate metal work and jewelry that they trade for the food they need. The Dwarves have the reputation of being distant and irritable, but physically resilient. A large proportion of their population have a level or two in the fighter class, but there are some miners and craftsmen who are not warrior trained. Most Dwarves are Lawful in alignment. The Dwarves have excellent Night Vision from living underground. Because of their unfamiliarity with arcane magic and their general hardiness, all Dwarves get +2 saves vs. Magic and vs. Poison. They also are very accustomed to dealing with underground constructions, so have the Stonework Skill, allowing them to spot pits, weird construction and stone-traps underground.

Dwarves think it's bad luck to call people by their names, so they keep their true names secret, using a false one in public. They also tend to call everyone “guy” or “buddy.”

There is a subspecies of Dwarves known as the Crimson Dwarves (the rest of the Dwarves are commonly called Mountain Dwarves), notable in that they have bright red skin. They are culturally connected to Chaos and look down on the Mountain Dwarves, calling them “Mongrels” or “Half Dwarves”, mistakenly thinking them to be cross-breeds of some sort.

Dwarves in the Region:
There are some strong communities of Mountain Dwarves in the Break Ridges, and they do a lot of business in the city. But, the Crimson Dwarves of the Joraks are even more keen on active trade with the city. The mountain dwarves are a common sight in the city as they often travel by the rivers to do business. The Crimson Dwarves, despite the fact they want to engage in the trade, are too paranoid and hateful to come to the city in person. Instead, they either use middle-men, or they insist merchants come to them, and so they are considered a rare sight.
