In early January 1934, an abandoned bookstore and apartment building in Old Gotham collapsed leaving a pile of wreckage around a large open hole. While the official explanation was “termites”, the collapse was in fact caused by the vigilante known as The Roachman who had exploded a chemical device that attracted a mind-numbingly huge horde of roaches to the building.
Despite efforts to rinse, fumigate and even fill the site with concrete, the roaches remain. The wreckage has been cleared away, but the hole remains. Any attempts to fill the hole have failed, and no one will enter the hole due to the horde of roaches that can be seen when darkness falls or in any spot under shadow.
