"You said your name was [[http://www.osovo.com/uly/02/ugly-people-15.jpg|Jenny]]!!!" ====== Brief Mortal History ====== G.R. was born in the middle Dark Ages, into a family of tradesmen. His father was a blacksmith or armorer by trade, and his mother was the typical medieval woman. She tended the household, and raised the children. It is possible that he had a number of siblings. His family lived in a town that was located in the Germanic lands, and would have had a moderate dwelling with an attached blacksmith's shop. He would have been an apprentice blacksmith, and his mortal education would have consisted of learning the trade of his father, and the appropriate Christian doctrine of the time. When the Normans invaded England, his father joined the invading forces as a blacksmith, as the opportunity meant financial, and social well-being, especially after the Normans completed a successful campaign and eventually conquered England. His family prospered for a time, as his father was elevated within the new society, however he never came back home. As it turns out, his father had been killed by an outbreak of plague, and was never able to put down proper roots within the new society. Once the money from his father began to arrive, and the need for apprentice blacksmiths dwindled, it was decided that G.R. would enroll in university to become either a member of the clergy, or a doctor. He was able to pick which road he wished to walk, but only after two years of basic schooling. It was during those first two years that the same plague outbreak that had taken his father, reached his town. One by one, his entire family succumbed to the illness. G.R. kept his oath, continued his schooling, and once his first two years had ended, he decided to become a plague doctor, a profession that mixed both medicine and religion. At the time Plague doctors were travelling around the known world, studying the mysterious illness, helping to gather, administer last rights to, and bury the infected dead. After another two years of schooling, both the Church and royalty as both the Church and Royalty commissioned G.R. as a functioning Plague Doctor, and he set off on his eventual path to madness…. G.R. maintained a regular routine. He would arrive in a town which requested his services, begin to visit with those afflicted to assist them in prayer, tend to their afflictions, soothe their worried families, prepare their souls for ascension to heaven, and then almost assuredly bury them days later. While plague doctors, were respected members of society for their professions and mettle, they were social pariahs. Few people save for other Plague Doctors, associated with them out of fear of catching the plague or for their being Scions of the Lord. G.R. had met other Doctors, but rarely maintained any time with them, due to their being spread all over the known world, and rather busy with their studies and work. After a number of years of solitude, and dealing strictly with the dead and dying, G.R. stated to deteriorate mentally. His studies of the plague started to focus less on how to cure it, and more on how it killed, and why it killed. He focused on those affected, and began to hypnotize that their souls were being chosen by God for judgment, and that the Plague was a device for those souls to shed the mortal coil. His ministries to the ailing also began to focus less on prayer and hope for life, and center on encouraging victims to die sooner, in order to be judged and sit with God or Satan accordingly. Eventually, rather than tending to the ailing, and their families, G.R. began to outright murder the ailing. He would wait until he and the victim were alone, and find a way to kill them without causing suspicion. He believed that making the ailing wait, until the mortal coil shed was allowing a soul to suffer needlessly. Since all of the afflicted he worked with eventually died, he supposed that putting them through hell on earth, before facing God’s judgment was a sin, and he would not allow for a delay in the process. Ending the suffering of those weaker than him, was something that he considered a slight against his religion and his standing as a member of society. This went on for a few years. He travelled from town to town, killing victims, administering them with last rights, burying their mortal shells, and leaving. He never killed anyone who was not afflicted with the disease, and would always do it in the most painless way possible. He did have morals, after all… One evening, he was summoned to the home of a Duke in the court of the Current English King. This duke had become afflicted with the Black Death, and was looking for a competent Plague Doctor to ease his suffering, and lead him back to God. G.R. was given very specific instructions on how and when to approach the Duke’s keep. He was to arrive after midnight, and was not to carry with him any religious items, such as bibles, crucifix, or holy water. He was not to speak to anyone about his commission, not even the church. G.R. found this to be an odd set of instructions, but he was used to dealing with nobility, and understood that those of higher station often had behaviors that were uncommon to peasants or the middle class. He also understood that as a Duke, his excellence was of a higher station, and that breaking his wishes was not an option, and an affront to the King and God. Upon his arrival, G.R. met with the Seneschal of the keep. A very proper man, he was immaculately kept, and extremely well spoken. G.R. noticed that the Seneschal seemed cold, and his skin had little color. The Seneschal welcomed G.R. to the keep and led him to the guest quarters. Once G.R. had settled, he was ushered to the Duke’s private quarters to being his work. When G.R. entered the Duke’s quarters, he was taken aback at what he saw. The room was immaculately clean, and well organized. Nothing was out of place. He noticed that even the Duke’s bed and dressing were immaculate. When the Duke coughed into a handkerchief, he held it out, and a servant took the cloth, rushed over to a burning pyre, and threw it on. He also watched as the Duke Immediately placed his hands into a bowl of water, which has been taken from atop the pyre and washed his hands vigorously. G.R. was astounded when the Duke did not wince at the scolding water. This occurred at least three times, before the Duke acknowledged the presence of G.R. and the Seneschal. He nodded and the Seneschal exited, leaving G.R. alone in the room. ====== Kindred History ====== G.R. does not remember anything of his mortal life. That night the Duke embraced him into Clan Malkavaian. The Duke had become aware that G.R’s activities, and had been monitoring his gradual decent into madness for some time. G.R.’s religious zeal, and odd code of moral amused the Duke, and he felt that granting G.R. the gifts of Malkav would aid him greatly in his endeavors. After waking from his embrace, The Duke was even more amused when he found that G.R. did not remember anything about his mortal life. When Malkav’s gift shattered G.R.’s mirror, it also shattered his psyche. The Duke took full advantage of this. When The Duke began to school G.R. on everything Kindred, he noticed that G.R.’s zeal for harvesting souls had not died with his memories. Neither did his code of honor, morals, knowledge of medicine, the occult and social etiquette. G.R. also showed no sign of emotions, either inwardly or outwardly, and he rarely spoke. The Duke was of Clan Malkavian, but entrusted G.R.’s learning to a Ventrue Knight, who was in the Duke’s service. This knight taught G.R. the Road of Kings, specifically the Path of Chivalry. Upon his acknowledgement, GR was placed into service as a Knight of the Prince of England (who just happened to be the Duke of Concord, his sire). As a Knight, G.R. was led to believe that he served his sire, who was God’s voice on Earth. The Duke routinely sent G.R. on errands that required him to destroy the mortal coil of a vassal, under the pretense of it being God’s wish that the soul of the vassal be returned to him for judgment. G.R. was not a physical warrior as the Brujah, or Gangrel Knights who served the Kingdom, his skills were in stealth, empathy, observation, and investigation. He often used these skills, along with his disciplines to weaken the mental resolve of the vassal, before ridding the souls of its mortal coil. After a few decades of service, G.R’s madness led him to believe that he alone was able to judge who was supposed to be freed of their mortal coil, and returned to God. He began to seek out the elderly, frail, and sinners, and killing them in cold blood. He believed that these vassal’s mortal coils made weak, and therefore they required needed his protection. His protection would be freeing them for judgment, and ushering them to the afterlife. He was also drawn to plague victims, the sickly, and he would even free children whom he felt were worthy. He did not reserve judgment himself, he preferred to let God make that decision. His job was to reap and collect the souls. He did his job well. He did not have much interaction with the Duke, as his sire had grown more reclusive as time grew on. His official missions for the Kingdom came less often, and he was frequently left to his own devices. 100 years after his embrace, G.R. was summoned to the personal quarters of his sire, the Prince. His sire, as he had come to find out, could only feed on plague victims. His afflictions were growing worse, and he was seen as being unable to make proper decisions for the kingdom, according to his enemies at court. The Prince explained that his enemies claimed that his afflictions had jeopardized the tradition that Kindred remain a secret to the mortals who served them, and that his afflictions had caused an inquisition to form in the realm. This inquisition was slowly finding and destroying various kindred in the realm. He then tasked G.R. to stand for the honor of the realm, and protect his liege at all costs. G.R. began to investigate the claims against his sire. He spent many nights watching his sire’s enemies at court, and observing their actions. He even managed to sneak into and watch a conclave, whose goal was to discuss disposing the Prince. At this conclave, it was revealed to G.R. that his various errands to seek out and free vassals, were actually attacks on the Prince’s enemies holdings, and personal domains. He found that a number of these attacks broke treaties and blood oaths that his sire had sworn to uphold at all costs. He had been used, in secret, to break sworn oaths, and commit actions which jeopardized the kingdom, and the existence of the Kindred therein. His sire had betrayed him, and his own realm. This dishonor could not stand. His sire had challenged to him to do what was right for the realm. G.R. could no longer ignore that challenge. Upon his next meeting with his sire, G.R. made his move. He waited until the Prince was enduring an affliction brought on by feeding on a plague ridden Victim, and he attacked. The battle was fierce, as his sire was stronger than he was mentally and possessed stronger discipline. However, after much strife, G.R. had managed to put him to final death. Upon the realization that he had upheld the honor of the realm, but in the process had destroyed his liege, and the voice of God on earth, G.R. descended further into the madness that afflicted his clan. G.R. was also immediately haunted by an ominous voice. This voice manifested before him, one evening, and told him that since his betrayal of his sire had destroyed the voice of God on Earth, he would be forced to carry on as the vassal of God for the remainder of his existence. This voice of God informed him that he was now tasked with reaping souls, just as he had been doing previously. However when he did not succeed, or refused, the voice of God manifested and caused him physical and mental harm. G.R. came to believe that he was now God’s horseman of death, and it was his duty, Grim as it was, to reap the souls of those who were slated for judgment. What G.R. doesn’t know is that the Voice in his head is his sire’s specter. His sire is committing the ultimate prank of tormenting GR for his betrayal. ====== Modern History ====== G.R. has managed to survive into the modern night, by assimilating into the Camarilla society. He believes that the traditions of the Camarilla, are the same as those he had sworn to uphold as a Knight on the Road of Chivalry.
