+The City Garrison is charged with defending the city against outside attack and civil uprising.  It consists of 1000 of the soldiers, organized into 10 companies of 100 men.  4 are crossbow companies, 3 are pole-arm, 1 is pikemen, 1 is medium horse, and 1 are engineers, manning the various catapults etc.  Each of the companies is commanded by a knight-captain.  The entire garrison is commander by the City Marshal, a knight appointed by the Lord Mayor. The bulk of the garrison is usually found at the City Garrison Fort south of the river, although a company is also posted at the Watch Tower farther south.  1-2 companies will be out drilling and 1 company scouting around outside the city for threats. Finally, one company each day is broken into 10 squads, nine of which patrol the walls and gates and one of which is posted at the City Palace.
+The Lord Mayor's Household Guard is a unit of around 200 knights, half vassals and half household knights who serve the Lord Mayor directly.  50 of them are likely to be in the Mayor's presence at any one time, the rest off on various duties or at their own homes.

+The vast militia is organized into neighborhood bands,  responsible for patrolling the city as the Night Watch, and defending it against major assaults.  A cry of alarm, whether because of thieves, fire or monster will quickly see a response by the militia.  The militia is overseen by the City Constable, a knight apointed by the Lord Mayor. The Marshal can also cal up militia bands toman the gates and walls.
