 They appear to have been violet-colored titanic armored and segmented worms. One end of the tunneler terminated in a large, toothed mouth, with four slit-like eyes set above the mouth and small vestigial limbs at the sides of the "head" to help it chew through the rocky earth. The creature’s tail was capped by a massive poisonous paralytic stinger. The Porphyrous Tunneler was often depicted as bursting out of the ground and arching itself in a distinctive pose when it was in an attack mode.
