The English, especially the ones in the New World, are naturally hostile to the Normans who have overthrown their traditional institutions and sense of self-rulership. Normans, therefore, are forbidden to hold positions of trust or honor in the government of Nessex.

There is also sense of hostility between the English and the Danes, Welsh and Scots as a result of centuries of conflict. The English of Nessex and the Danes of Thorsland in the New World have become particularly hostile to one another.
