MUNDANE CRAFTING
If a character has proper tools, skill and time, they can create ordinary items for themselves. This is rarely profitable for low-cost items, since the profit is small and not geared to PC-level of personal spending. To determine the crafting details, look at the list price of the item. The item will take 2 days of work for each gold piece of cost, and you must spend 40% of the cost on materials.
- Example: an Arming Sword costs 15gp. If the PC has Occupation (Swordsmith) skill and a smithy, it will take him 30 days and 6sp to make it. If he has an apprentice, he can cut the time in half (but needs to pay the apprentice).
Background Calculus: For each gold piece of cost, figure 3sp goes to labor, 3 sp to profit or capital, and 4sp to materials. The PC crafter must pay the material cost. Since 3sp is about 2 day's living expenses for a normal NPC, each Gold Piece of cost takes 2 man/days of work.
