Key Locations of the City of Irongate
- Iron Pool: a great deep pool on the western edge of the Iron Hills where they meet the city. The pool spills over into the harbor in a spectacular waterfall.
- Great Harbor: a broad and deep natural anchorage that empties into the Southern Channel, which runs to the sea. The channel and harbor are broad and deep enough for great ocean-going vessels to easily sail upon.
- The Iron Hills: the rugged chain of hills comes up to the eastern edge of the city. The city itself is on the site of what had been called “The Iron Pass” that separated the Iron Hills from the Headlands, and what is the easiest route from Ahlissa to the South. The Iron Pool, the Wizard's Guild and the Pool Tower are all located in the westernmost of the Iron Hills.
- The Headlands: this chain of hills run from Irongate deep into Onnwal in the West. The Mayor's Castle and Astrologer's college are both on the easternmost of the Headlands Hills.
The City Districts
North District: the north district is best real estate in the city, there you will find the houses of various city lords, guildhalls of the banking and gold-smith guilds, the monastery of St. Mohr and the city temple. The one anomaly is an ancient watch tower, that belonged to a previous set of city walls, it is now the city prison, named for the famous hero of the city Glortho the astrologer.
East District The East District is the center for the more respectable trades and mercantile guilds. Here you might find the house of a ship captain, a wine merchant, a large weaving factory, a grain wholesaler etc.
Center District: this is the center for manufacture of wooden, leather and pottery goods in the city. It is also filled with the more respectable open air markets, and is the place to come for meeting and greeting.
West District: a slightly shabby section of town where members of the poorer citizenry live and do business. Shoemakers, soap-makers, pawnbrokers, peddlers all live and work through this section.
Dwarf District: the Rockhard clan lord owns all the land here and usually leases only to dwarves. It is a busy center for the manufacture of armaments and other metal goods.
Dock District: this district is a bit peculiar, in that it is outside the city walls, yet legally and culturally very much a part of the city. It serves as the city slums, and the one place in the city where poor foreigners and vagrants can stay without being constantly asked their business. It also can be a place of great wealth, as commerce from dozens of lands passes through the district constantly.
