Alexander did not know much about the town other than the fact that it was a short ways from [[Blackangel]] and that there were [[nero|rumors of a woman's body being safely hidden away]] for reasons that were unknown.

 As Alexander and Joffrey entered the keep that the Assembly had used as its base for decades, they were ambushed. In the ambush Joffrey was killed, and Alexander was taken prisoner. Alexander lost his spellbook and thus would not find out until much later that Joffrey's spirit would inhabit the book, to continue aiding Alexander. The people who took over the Assembly would experiment on students to try and maximize their destructive power. They would take the students and put various magical crystals in their arms to try and cause spells to be amplified. These experiments were unsuccessful, and students were left with various scars in their arms where the crystals were inserted.

It was that same night that Alexander would be visited by the Raven Queen in his dreams. She told him that he would be needed for something soon. Alexander awoke and told Joffrey about his dream, and Joffrey told Alexander that he should prepare himself, as well as deepen his faith in the Raven Queen.
