Alexander Luxin
Alexander Luxin does not know many things about his past. He has no idea who his parents are, he does not know where he was originally from, and he does not know what about him compelled the Assembly of Fate to train him.
As long as Alexander could remember he was a student of the Assembly of Fate. They taught him the history of the land and guided him in his magical pursuits throughout his childhood. He was always told he had great potential, and this gave him the confidence to tackle any challenge he faced. As Alexander entered his teenage years, he began to focus on knowledge of magical arts over the practice of the arts. This caused many of his mentors in the Assembly to protest letting him remain in the Assembly, since they believed that his lack of practice would make him a liability for them. One of the members convinced them to let him take Alexander under his wing. This mage was named Joffrey ilphelkir, a half-elf man who held the same fascination with history and knowledge that Alexander did. Joffrey would then teach Alexander about a forgotten sect of the Assembly, the Order of the Scribes.
Alexander would learn that Joffrey was the only remaining member of the Order and that his pursuit of knowledge could lead him to greater power than the other instructors were capable of teaching. Joffrey taught Alexander how to manipulate a spell's formula to change properties of it. He also taught him the art of quickly transcribing spells. These teachings would require great focus and time for Alexander, so Joffrey took him to a small, quiet town that he could learn and practice effectively. Alexander did not know much about the town other than the fact that it was a short ways from Blackangel and that there were rumors of a woman's body being safely hidden away for reasons that were unknown.
Alexander and Joffrey spent years in the town. During this time, they developed a very close bond. Alexander would learn that Joffrey was quite a sarcastic fellow, but also a very good person. Alexander's final test was to awaken his spellbook with the potential that had been taught to him, thus making him a new member of the Order of the Scribes. Eventually, Alexander was taught he could, so he and Joffrey returned to the Assembly so that Alexander could become a proper member of the Assembly. However, unbeknownst to them, there had been a takeover of the Assembly by evil forces who wanted to take those with magical abilities and potential. They took these individuals to make assassins and soldiers that would work to further the group's goals.
As Alexander and Joffrey entered the keep that the Assembly had used as its base for decades, they were ambushed. In the ambush Joffrey was killed, and Alexander was taken prisoner. Alexander lost his spellbook and thus would not find out until much later that Joffrey's spirit would inhabit the book, to continue aiding Alexander. The people who took over the Assembly would experiment on students to try and maximize their destructive power. They would take the students and put various magical crystals in their arms to try and cause spells to be amplified. These experiments were unsuccessful, and students were left with various scars in their arms where the crystals were inserted.
Alexander spent many months suffering at the hands of the group, who he would learn called themselves the Shepherds of Corruption. Alexander would eventually escape and go into hiding on his own from the Shepherds. One night, after narrowly avoiding a search party by hiding out in a cave, Alexander would find his spellbook, seemingly placed there by fate. As he picked up the book, he was greeted by the face and voice of Joffrey, whose spectral face was projected out of the book. Joffrey explained that as he died, he was able to transport his spirit into the book. In an effort to give Alexander guidance, Joffrey then explained the history of the Assembly of Fate. Joffrey explained that the Assembly was originally formed by him and four others who were followers of the Raven Queen. He explained that they formed the Assembly after the Raven Queen appeared to them in their dreams and told them that they would need to train people for coming events. The founders decided to start a school for those they saw had magical potential. This led to the first students being taught at the Assembly. Decades after the founding, they found a child lost, so they took in the child and eventually began to teach the child the ways of the arcane. This child was Alexander.
After being told this, Alexander decided that he would help those that he came across, as long as he could avoid attracting the attention of the Shepherds. It was that same night that Alexander would be visited by the Raven Queen in his dreams. She told him that he would be needed for something soon. Alexander awoke and told Joffrey about his dream, and Joffrey told Alexander that he should prepare himself, as well as deepen his faith in the Raven Queen.
It was during this time that Alexander began to take an interest in the dead and in life beyond death. He studied corpses he came across in his journey, learning the ways they died and giving them proper burials and send offs. He also read everything he could about what happened to a person after they died, these readings included various theories and “research” papers that he got his hands on. He connected the theories he came across, looking for any consistencies amongst them and using those connections to form his own theories. He would talk about these theories, as well as others, with Joffrey.
Months passed as Alexander spent most of his time alone, furthering his magical and intellectual pursuits, all while also learning more about the Raven Queen. One night Alexander was visited in his dreams again by the Raven Queen. She told him that it was time, and that he would be needed in the afterlife. As he awoke, Alexander still had all of his possessions, including his spellbook, but was not in the world he knew any longer.
