STARTING EQUIPMENT
In addition to the gear purchased with the starting money generated when ability scores are generated, each PC, henchman and hireling can be expected to have the following:
- A set of serviceable work clothes
- a good set of boots
- a backpack
- a coin purse that holds up to 500 coins
- Food sack with 5 days' iron rations
- a belt, girdle or baldric with any scabbards necessary for swords or daggers bought
- 2 empty sacks.
- 1 empty quart water skin
This equipment will be automatically replaced if lost or damaged as long as you keep current on maintenace payments. None of these items count toward encumbrance, except the bag of food, which counts as 1 item, until you put something in them. For example, if you have extra money after buying gear, the purse will suddenly be 1 item for encumbrance. If you fill the skin with water, it becomes an item.
Any character who has the magic-user class begins play with his first level spell book, and 1 scroll of any one spell from his first level list.
