The Six

For good or ill, your life has ended. As your soul makes its way toward the afterlife that you deserve, you are offered a chance to take part in one final struggle - a battle to stave off the forces of the abyss that seek to destroy the delicate balance of the cosmology. Why were you selected as your patron’s champion and why do you accept this challenge?

At the beginning of this adventure, all the player characters are already dead. What are the circumstances of these deaths? Who are the otherworldly beings that act as your patrons, reviving you in the afterlife to carry out their wishes? Why do these particular characters accept their patrons’ challenge to fight off looming Armageddon?

Is free will real? Are the heroes just playthings of the Daeva, or is there room for redemption? Is the outcome of this final battle for the heavens predestined, or is failure a very real outcome? Why fight if you have nothing left to lose?

Set betwixt the mind-bending Nine Hells, this adventure explores what it means to be a plaything of the gods while delivering an explosive thrill ride of set-piece battles.

Each player should have a deity or warlock patron in mind as their metaphysical sponsor as they create their character. To reflect this fact, please respect the following guidelines for character creation in this one-shot adventure:

• No Bards, Druids, Rogues, or Sorcerers
• Any subclass of Cleric, Monk, Paladin, or Warlock
• Any subclass of Artificer, Fighter, or Wizard, but only if the character takes the Acolyte or Hermit background
• You may take levels of Barbarian only if you choose the Zealot primal path at third level
• You may take levels of Ranger only if you choose the Horizon Walker archetype at third level

Please create your character using a combination of the Player's Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. Stats should use the point-buy system or the standard array.

Players will be offered possible choices of magic items they are reincarnated with shortly. Feel free to add as much non-magical equipment as your PC can physically carry.
