Mikhail is attacked by same two men dressed in black suits. He manages to slay one and knock out the other one. He destroys much of their equipment, but finds their weaponry non-functional even before he touches it. He passes these mortals on to Q for questioning and they are not seen again.

Zach the Gangrel shows up at The Gene Pool.

Zach is later joined by a strange being named Wax. Wax attempts to bargain with Emile and Constance for boons in exchange for a tome written by an ancient Malkavian seer. Those who believe in such things even say that the book's author might have been Malkav himself. However, the negotiation quickly goes bad and once Wax is threatened with violence he melts into a pool of flesh-colored goop.

Most of York's kindred are mobilized to summon and track the being known as Wax. Unfortunately all efforts prove to be inconclusive.

Evan Williford is found shot in the head. His quiet second floor apartment is found ransacked. Traces of heroin are found scattered throughout the apartment. According to police reports, no one nearby, including the crowded barroom downstairs, heard the gunshot over the music that was being played.
